Cascara is an Afro – Cuban rhythm usually played on the rim or side of a floor tom. It fits so well with
Clave both Rhumba and Son and can be layered with other Afro – Cuban rhythms such as the
Mozambique. Note the typical Cuban syncopated bass part and how it locks in with the bass drum. 2
– 3 refers to the 2 snare clicks in the first bar and 3 in the second. Clave compositions are either 2-3
or 3-2.
